Grammys 2016 Fashion & Style

Grammys style this year was quite subdued but some stars deserve a mention. These were the highlights for me!

Lady Gaga's homage to David Bowie in this beautiful custom Marc Jacobs, right on trend. I am loving the Jacket Dress!!!

The trouser suit
Zendaya in Dsquared2 and Giuseppe Zanotti

Serayah in this lovely Vera Wang number

Traditional Black

Carrie Underwood in Nicolas Jebra and Giuseppi Zanotti's

Alessandra Ambrosio in Versace and Giuseppi Zanotti's

I actually really like this dress that Mya is wearing

This Christian Siriano piece really suits Elle King and her personality

Something a bit different, Janelle Monae in Jean Paul Gaultier

Rihanna in this Giambattista Valii cupcake flouncy gown

Selena Gomez in a Calvin Klein sparkly number

Really like the fabric in this Vivienne Westwood gown on Liame-La-Havas

Cute Hello Kitty Onsie worn by Dencia not sure if it's red carpet worthy but  worth a mention, and aren't we meant to be comfortable... (though maybe not that comfortable) but at least she stood out from the crowd!

Another "something different" look from Z-Lala

Taylor Swift in Atelier Versace and Stuart Weitzman. Not sure if it's my thing, I like the skirt but not sure about the boob tube more poolside than red carpet.

Also love this gold number Jani Khosla on Giuliana Rancic!

What was your favourite look of the 2016 Grammy's???

Blogmas Day 12 ~ #OOTD

#OOTD

So I went shopping today with a plan to but some thigh high boots, saw some lovely grey ones in Primark. Unfortunately they were sold out in grey but I tried the black and as always they looked awful!!!!

Does anyone else out there have difficulty buying boots that fit your calves and thighs???

Todays boots as almost all boots were massive!!! I mean I could have fitted both my legs in one!!!!

I appreciate the wide fit that many brands provide for feet, these are so comfy and stop squishing your toes, however I wish brands did a slim fit leg, especially with elasticated fabrics.
Why stretchy boots are too big is beyond me!!!

We have regular fit and wide fit but where is the slim fit????!!!!! Please help designers and buyers in shoe and boot land????

Rant over...

Reason for my shopping was that I wanted to try this lampshade trend!!!

My solution, cut up tights and wear as really long leg warmers!!!! (but really I want boots that fit)

#OOTD woolly jumper to keep me warm, leg warmers and Wallis boots (quite a good fit, could be a bit tighter) !!!!

Safety Pin Fashion ~Versace Love ~ Design, Trend or Costume?

So it's my favourite time of year, well favourite holiday, Halloween soon. I love to dress up, to design and create. I find it very disappointing that the older we get the less we embrace the costume. So I am happy to announce that this year I not only get to enjoy Halloween but also a "Reeling in the Years" themed event. So costume time! But I had no idea what to wear. My friend, who invited me had decided on Bad Sandy from Grease, so I needed an equally impressive costume....

Liz Hurley's, Versace safety pin from the 1994 premier of Four Weddings and a Funeral!

This dress is famous, simply referred to as "That Dress". It has been voted No.1 in a poll on the most iconic red carpet dresses compiled by Debenhams.

It was shocking and produced much controversy in the media at the time, but did it really change the way we dress? Versace was a man who embraced the female form and to quote Liz herself "Unlike many other designers, Versace designs clothes to celebrate the female form rather than eliminate it."

Today we don't bat an eyelid to the outfits or  it would be better to say lack there of, of celebrities such as Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga and Rihanna.

Versace may have made it famous but so many other designers have followed suit and used pins in their creations, including Moschino, Alexander McQueen and Marc Jacobs.

Versace has been an inspiration to me for many moons. I have designed and worn safety pin dresses in the past, embraced plunging necklines and skies the limit thigh slits but now I have set my sights on recreating "That Dress" as an iconic 90's costume. I hope I do it justice.

Wikipedia tells me the design basics:

Design

The black dress was made from pieces of silk and lycra fabric, with oversized gold safety pins placed at "strategical places". The dress was wide open at the front, from the neck down to at least half way across the bosom, with two slimline straps on the shoulders each side connected by a gold safety pin and two cut-away parts on both sides that were held together with six gold safety pins on each side and one at the top of the cut-away on each side connecting it to the bosom section. The dress is said to be punk-inspired, "neo-punk",and something which "emerged from the sari development" according to Gianni Versace himself.

I still don't know if there were two thigh slits? From photos of Liz walking up the stairs it looks as if there were? I wish I could see it up close to investigate!!!!

Also I am not using silk, it is just a costume so I am using a stretchy jersey like fabric that clings nicely to the body. €15 per meter from Hickeys Fabrics. Also I don't think I will go so low on the neckline but we'll see, I plan on fitting a bra to the dress so give me support and so I don't have annoying bra straps every where!!!

I painted some safety pins gold and added some gold buttons to make them a bit fancier like Versace's.

Here is the finished product....

Another great night with the Macra crew!!

Primark/Penneys Haul

Just a quick update of my adventures as a shopaholic!!!

I just can't pass Penneys / Primark without going in and today I picked up a few basics I needed!

A new black bag €12, I love the zip detail on this bag, and it is lined so nothing falls out when it's opened!

Tink make-up bag €5, I just thought it was so cute!

P.S... Strawberry Lip Balm €2.50, a girl can never have enough lip balm! This is like the Balmi lip gloss.

Hair clips, €1.50, I always use these clips to tie up my hair, they are great for buns or plaits!

Black Cotton Leggings €4, I needed a new pair...

So there it is.....

Feel free to comment or tell me of your shopping adventures!!!

Debs Style and Check List

So it’s that time of year again, debs season!

I’ve been hearing and seeing a lot about this recently both in the Media (like Xpose make overs) and in store.

If you still don’t have a dress don’t worry there are loads out there for you to find!!!

Dress

1 What is your Budget?

Dresses can vary in price from €20 to €800!!!

2. High Street or Haute Couture?

I’ve been to a few Debs/Grads in my day so I’ve worn both!!!

Haute Couture

Look around if you are getting a dress made; ask friends and family if they could recommend a dressmaker and check online.

If you find a dressmaker you think you like set up a meeting, ask to see their work, tell them how much you want to spend, fabrics you like etc. and ask if it is feasible?  Check reviews online. Then get designing, most will listen to what you like and look at any images you bring with you then design a one off Haute Couture piece just for you!!!

High Street

These days there is so much choice on the High Street it’s defiantly worth a wander around the high street.

One of my dresses was a sample bridesmaid dress from a  Bridal Boutique for just €20. This would have retailed in the hundreds if it was made to order as most bridal is however at the end of every season the samples are sold off at a reduced rate so ask around they are unlikely to be out front but usually the shop assistant will be more than happy to help you.

Try on everything, even if it’s not what you would usually go for.
Try a range of colours and styles to find what suits you.

Colour, Patterns, Style, Sleeves, Straps, Strapless, Backless, embellishments?

Check online, now this could be hit and miss so I would recommend doing this early in case you have to return it.

Alterations

Don’t be afraid to have a dress altered, I had one of mine taken in at the top as it was strapless and I didn’t want it to fall down! It was a fashion show dress from Sheena’s Boutique and as it had been worn, on sale for €40. (RRP €200+)

Accessories

Jewellery depending on the dress you may not need any. A lot of boutiques will also have a range of jewellery and accessories so have a look.

Bag, you will probably need a bag, maybe a small clutch? Make sure it matches and holds your phone, camera, makeup and anything else you might need!!! Though we would all love a Judith Lieber, Primark/Penneys always have a nice range. You can always accessorise it yourself; just don’t leave it to the last minute!

Shoes, you’ll be wearing them all night and dancing so make sure you can walk in them. You can never be over the top at a debs so get what you like glitter, sparkles and sequins!!! You could pick up  a nice pair of strappy sandals in the sales at the moment!!!

You might want to bring some flats (if you can fit them in your bag) if your still going to be wandering the streets in the morning!!!

Underwear- this can make or break your outfit. Spanx for smooth lines if you have a fitted dress. You might need a backless, strapless or a deep plunge bra. Maybe a nude colour?

Be sure to tell your date your colour scheme so he doesn’t clash with you (usually his waistcoat/tie/cummerbund will match your dress) and so he gets a beautiful corsage to match.

Dress done there is so much else to think about so make sure you have these covered.

·        Tan appoint made in advance if you want a tan

·        Nail appointment made

·        Hair appointment, styles chosen and images with you to show your stylist, hair    accessories chosen for stylist to apply.
Bring some pictures with you when making the appointment  as well as on the day so your stylist knows how long it will take and what you want.

·        Make-up appointment, look chosen and images with you to show your make-up artist.

Do you know how you are getting there?

Getting home?

So the check list

1.     Tickets

2.     ID

3.     Date

4.     Dress/Underwear

5.     Jewellery

6.     Shoes

7.     Bag

8.     Tan

9.     Nails

10. Hair

11.  Makeup

12. Transport

13.Camera/Phone

Enjoy your night!

Transitional Pieces Pre Fall 2015

Its that time of year again! its not quite summer and its not quite autumn!
For example I woke up to sunshine however as I approached the hall door I was met with torrential rain *sadface

What do I need Sunglasses or Umbrella?? Both!!!

Key pieces for this transitional season "pre-fall"are summarised nicely by fashionista and the designer looks can be found on style.com

Colour wise keeping it quite similar to Autumn Winter with a nod to Spring Summer

It's getting colder so we are keeping warm with the retro beach poncho or an oversized (plush) coat!
The poncho is a good transitional piece as it can be warm and cosy and take you through to Winter while you can wear it to the beach or the park on a sunny day (just in case)

Knits are also creeping into our daily fashion like these...

However we don't want to forget the sunshine of summer so keeping whites in the wardrobe!!

Leather is another key piece, maybe a leather dress or skirt? Not for everyone but it is a warmer fabric and water proof!!!!

Fringing, Pleats and Patterns are still with us so keep these in your wardrobe and just add the warmer pieces and think layering!

Why not pick up a trendy umbrella and let your personality shine through??

How are you coping with this in between time??

What are you wearing??
