The Liebster Award

Great New!!! The wonderful Katie Ellen (show her blog some love) nominated me to do The Liebster Award!!!

Let me explain the concept for you:

  • Thank the person who nominated you and include link to their blog.
  • Answer the 11 questions.
  • Think up 11 new questions
  • Nominate 11 other bloggers you think deserve the nomination, who have under 1000 followers.
  • Alert them to the nomination on social media!

 The Q & A

1. What do you feel is the best thing about blogging?

I get to share my ramblings with the world instead of them staying in my head!

Honestly I get to research and share my passions which in the ordinary course of working I would not be able to do.

2. Do you enjoy reading blogs more than writing them or vice versa?

Both really, I love reading blogs and learning new skills from new recipes and crafts to beauty suggestions and motivational kicks up the bum!

Then I like sharing my finds!

You need both, you can't write a blog without having read one!

3. What is the most embarrassing thing you or someone you know have experienced?

This is a tough one! I kinda have a goldfish memory (or human memory since we are now worse than fishies!!!)  so I forget most things straight away!

4. What types of blogs do you enjoy most? (e.g. beauty, fashion, lifestyle, etc.)

I'm into everything really, I do like my make-up but fashion is one of my real passions, from trend forecasting to #OOTD.

Then there is baking and foodie blogs, I have a mouth full of sweet teeth so any simple bakes are a must!

Then crafts and knitting etc guess this ties in with fashion?!

I think lifestyle is a catch all, so if you give me everything I love that's great!!!!

5. Who is your biggest celebrity crush and why?

Gotta say Johnny Depp... Typical!
I'm not a big celebrity crush person, I want to get what I want and travelling around the world to stalk down my man prey just seems like too much effort!!

6. Do you have a favourite beauty brand? If so, who?

Not really, I have an eclectic make-up bag from High Street to High End, if I like something I get it!

7. One piece of make up you could not live without?

Black Eyeliner!!! Currently using Shiseido!

8. Weirdest habits of yours?

Staring off into the distance!!!

9. What do people in your offline life think of your blog?

Most don't really know/care or understand!
Except the ones that Blog too!

10. Who is your best online friend and how did you both meet?

I'm really just starting out chatting to other bloggers online so I can't really pick a best friend yet. But I am meeting so many lovely people having Twitter Chats like #syblchat #bdibNA #bdib etc. etc.

11. Who is your main online influence? (E.g. blogger, youtuber, viner, etc.)

I have to say Beauty La Linda! She go me into blogging and helped set me up!

Ok so there are my answers, and now for my questions!!!

  1. How did you get into Blogging?
  2. How would you describe your Blog Style?
  3. Who is your favourite Blogger?
  4. What is your Best Quality?
  5. What is your favourite piece of clothing?
  6. Lipstick or Lip Balm?
  7. Cooking or Baking?
  8. What is your Favourite Sweet Treat?
  9. What is your Favourite Colour?
  10. Do you have a Pet? If not, what Pet would you Love to Adopt?
  11. Would you describe your home as minimalist/ modern/ retro or cosy?

Now I Nominate You!!!

  1. Linda from Beauty la Linda

Grammys 2016 Fashion & Style

Grammys style this year was quite subdued but some stars deserve a mention. These were the highlights for me!

Lady Gaga's homage to David Bowie in this beautiful custom Marc Jacobs, right on trend. I am loving the Jacket Dress!!!

The trouser suit
Zendaya in Dsquared2 and Giuseppe Zanotti

Serayah in this lovely Vera Wang number

Traditional Black

Carrie Underwood in Nicolas Jebra and Giuseppi Zanotti's

Alessandra Ambrosio in Versace and Giuseppi Zanotti's

I actually really like this dress that Mya is wearing

This Christian Siriano piece really suits Elle King and her personality

Something a bit different, Janelle Monae in Jean Paul Gaultier

Rihanna in this Giambattista Valii cupcake flouncy gown

Selena Gomez in a Calvin Klein sparkly number

Really like the fabric in this Vivienne Westwood gown on Liame-La-Havas

Cute Hello Kitty Onsie worn by Dencia not sure if it's red carpet worthy but  worth a mention, and aren't we meant to be comfortable... (though maybe not that comfortable) but at least she stood out from the crowd!

Another "something different" look from Z-Lala

Taylor Swift in Atelier Versace and Stuart Weitzman. Not sure if it's my thing, I like the skirt but not sure about the boob tube more poolside than red carpet.

Also love this gold number Jani Khosla on Giuliana Rancic!

What was your favourite look of the 2016 Grammy's???

Safety Pin Fashion ~Versace Love ~ Design, Trend or Costume?

So it's my favourite time of year, well favourite holiday, Halloween soon. I love to dress up, to design and create. I find it very disappointing that the older we get the less we embrace the costume. So I am happy to announce that this year I not only get to enjoy Halloween but also a "Reeling in the Years" themed event. So costume time! But I had no idea what to wear. My friend, who invited me had decided on Bad Sandy from Grease, so I needed an equally impressive costume....

Liz Hurley's, Versace safety pin from the 1994 premier of Four Weddings and a Funeral!

This dress is famous, simply referred to as "That Dress". It has been voted No.1 in a poll on the most iconic red carpet dresses compiled by Debenhams.

It was shocking and produced much controversy in the media at the time, but did it really change the way we dress? Versace was a man who embraced the female form and to quote Liz herself "Unlike many other designers, Versace designs clothes to celebrate the female form rather than eliminate it."

Today we don't bat an eyelid to the outfits or  it would be better to say lack there of, of celebrities such as Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga and Rihanna.

Versace may have made it famous but so many other designers have followed suit and used pins in their creations, including Moschino, Alexander McQueen and Marc Jacobs.

Versace has been an inspiration to me for many moons. I have designed and worn safety pin dresses in the past, embraced plunging necklines and skies the limit thigh slits but now I have set my sights on recreating "That Dress" as an iconic 90's costume. I hope I do it justice.

Wikipedia tells me the design basics:

Design

The black dress was made from pieces of silk and lycra fabric, with oversized gold safety pins placed at "strategical places". The dress was wide open at the front, from the neck down to at least half way across the bosom, with two slimline straps on the shoulders each side connected by a gold safety pin and two cut-away parts on both sides that were held together with six gold safety pins on each side and one at the top of the cut-away on each side connecting it to the bosom section. The dress is said to be punk-inspired, "neo-punk",and something which "emerged from the sari development" according to Gianni Versace himself.

I still don't know if there were two thigh slits? From photos of Liz walking up the stairs it looks as if there were? I wish I could see it up close to investigate!!!!

Also I am not using silk, it is just a costume so I am using a stretchy jersey like fabric that clings nicely to the body. €15 per meter from Hickeys Fabrics. Also I don't think I will go so low on the neckline but we'll see, I plan on fitting a bra to the dress so give me support and so I don't have annoying bra straps every where!!!

I painted some safety pins gold and added some gold buttons to make them a bit fancier like Versace's.

Here is the finished product....

Another great night with the Macra crew!!

Primark/Penneys Haul

Just a quick update of my adventures as a shopaholic!!!

I just can't pass Penneys / Primark without going in and today I picked up a few basics I needed!

A new black bag €12, I love the zip detail on this bag, and it is lined so nothing falls out when it's opened!

Tink make-up bag €5, I just thought it was so cute!

P.S... Strawberry Lip Balm €2.50, a girl can never have enough lip balm! This is like the Balmi lip gloss.

Hair clips, €1.50, I always use these clips to tie up my hair, they are great for buns or plaits!

Black Cotton Leggings €4, I needed a new pair...

So there it is.....

Feel free to comment or tell me of your shopping adventures!!!
